Where should a personal AI request be processed?

Storage and processing are different choices. Treating them as one hides the decision that matters most.

Where personal information is stored and where an AI request is processed are separate decisions. Products often present them as a single setting, which leaves people unable to see what they actually agreed to.

Two questions, not one

  • Where is the personal record kept: a personal device, a selected cloud environment, private infrastructure or systems inside a chosen country or region.
  • Where is a given request processed, and does that answer change depending on which model is used.

Once both are visible, a person can make sensible trade offs. Some requests are best handled close to the device. Others benefit from a larger model elsewhere, with only the information needed for that request.

A foundation that keeps storage and processing visible lets a person decide, rather than assume.
